Volleyball’s Nelson is SLIAC Player of the Week

Webster University junior Rachel Nelson, a middle hitter for the volleyball team, has been selected as Defensive Player of the Week by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) for the week of Sept. 8-14.

Nelson a Papillon, Nebraska, native and transfer student at Webster, is the second Gorlok volleyball player to be named Defensive Player of the Week this season, joining senior Jordan Vehlewald.

Nelson had an impressive match in the Gorloks’ 3-1 win over Illinois Wesleyan University on Sept. 12.  She recorded 11 total blocks in the win, finishing with three solo blocks and eight block assists. Nelson added seven kills for a .375 hitting average, and finished the match with a team high 15 points.
