The golf team has high hopes for a record seventh SLIAC title and a return trip to the NCAA tournament.

The 2014-15 Webster University golf team enters this season looking to improve on a successful 2013-14 campaign. Last season included a SLIAC record sixth conference title and a third trip to the NCAA Championships in four years, where they finished 25th in the nation.

Having lost only one player to graduation, there are no worries about experience for head coach Andrew Belsky. Expected to lead the way for this year’s squad will be junior Tyler Thorman, sophomore Jon Hughes, and junior Brodie Dakin.

All three were SLIAC All-Conference selections last season as well as coming in first, second and third in scoring average. Thorman became the first player in Webster history to make the cut at the NCAA Championships where he finished, tied for 45th, in a field of 210. Also returning to this year’s team will be sophomores Jay Hargis, Justin Onken, and Ian Heizer, all of whom had solid freshmen seasons and look to continue improving during 2014-15.

The team begins play at the Culver’s Edgewood Fall Classic in Janesville, Wisconsin, Aug. 29-30.

“I’m really excited to see what this group develops into throughout the year,” says Belsky, fresh off an appearance on NBC’s Today show, “All of these players have great potential. The sky is the limit where we can go. It’s time to start working hard and we’ll see what happens.”
