Webster University men’s/women’s indoor track & field becomes the department’s 15-16th teams

Webster University men’s/women’s indoor track and field officially sanctioned by NCAA III for 2014-15 season

Men’s and women’s indoor track and field will become Webster University Athletics’ 15th and 16th teams, as they have been officially sanctioned by the department for the 2014-15 season. While the Gorlok track teams have participated in indoor events previously, this recognition will allow Webster track and field athletes to qualify for the NCAA III indoor national championships.

“We are excited to announce Webster is officially adding men’s and women’s indoor track and field to our current 14 sport NCAA III offerings, totaling 16 NCAA sports for the 2014-15 academic year,” said Scott Kilgallon, Webster’s new director of Athletics. “This addition meets one goal of our strategic plan to expand sport offerings and enrollment growth for our students. It is a result of tremendous recruiting by coach Dan Graber. Adding indoor track & field will enhance the experience of our current cross country and outdoor track and field student-athletes, and significantly help in the recruitment process.”

In addition to NCAA championship eligibility, the teams will play an expanded schedule this winter. The men’s and women’s indoor track and field will be the first teams added to Webster Athletics since outdoor track and field was established in 2009.

“Taking the next step forward for our programs and declaring indoor track and field as a sport will be a great benefit to our student athletes,” said Dan Graber, head track and field and cross country coach. “This shows Webster University is deeply invested in the experiences provided for our track and field and cross country athletes. These athletes work extremely hard to represent Webster to the best of their ability and this ensures they will be able to take advantage of all of the opportunities provided by the NCAA.”

Graber has overseen the recruitment of a substantial class of 34 athletes for the 2014-15 year who have participated in track.
