Global Leadership Academy Application Period Open; Informational Sessions Aug. 19-20

| August 1, 2014

Launched during the 2011-12 academic year, the Global Leadership Academy is a Webster University employee leadership development program created as a way to invest in employees and develop internal talent and leadership. GLA fellows work side by side as they explore leadership and learn the value of leading from wherever they are in the University.

For 2015, 16 fellows will be selected from all areas of the University for this unique opportunity to build cross-departmental relationships and explore all facets of Webster University’s educational and business model.

“The overarching goal of the GLA is to invest in the people of Webster University because we each play a distinct role in advancing Webster’s vision and mission,” said President Beth Stroble when the academy was launched.

GLA fellows study and learn with others from around the university with close access to the initiatives, people, and places that make Webster University a distinctive place to work.

Hear it from the Participants

Participants in the 2012 pilot year raved about the value of the program:

“As a staff member, this gives you the chance to step out of the box that you might find yourself in day after day,” said Laura Wainz, manager of Licensure & Information Resources. “It’s an opportunity to focus on our strengths and think about what we are good at and how we can use our personal strengths to help Webster achieve its goals. Each and every faculty and staff member can contribute and think about what he/she can do to serve students more effectively.”

Two years later, participants in the 2014 cohort are already seeing the benefits of the program after only two of their three sessions:

“The Global Leadership Academy has exceeded my already high expectations for the program.  The depth and breadth of the curriculum serve the varied needs of the fellows well,” reports Shelly Sawalich, director of the Academic Resource Center. “The insight that I am gaining about myself, Webster University, and leadership, in general, is directly applicable in both my professional and personal life.  Furthermore, the connections that I have made through GLA have allowed me to move forward on initiatives that will benefit our faculty, staff, and students.”
