Staff Voluntary Furlough Program – Summer 2014

Following last summer’s successful pilot program, University leadership has approved a Summer 2014 Voluntary Furlough program for interested staff. Program eligibility includes all full-time and part-time U.S. staff who have been employed by the University for at least six months at the time the furlough begins.

A staff member may take a one week, unpaid voluntary furlough, with advance approval of his/her supervisor. This unpaid furlough must be in a full-week increment (i.e., Monday thru Friday) and it must not interfere with staffing priorities of the campus or department. Available dates for the furlough are from June 1, 2014 through August 10, 2014. Benefits remain in force during the furlough.

Interested staff should discuss this opportunity with their supervisors. Once approved, time off for the Voluntary Furlough should be submitted to the Payroll Office at payroll@webster.edu at least one week in advance of the furlough date, using manual time sheets available in Payroll’s Forms section and coded “VSF.” Note that this is not available for tracking through My Webster until further advised.

Last year, 21 hourly and salaried staff members participated in this program. The savings of almost $15,000 in salaries is being redirected to student scholarships.
