Gorlok Six-Pack SLIAC Player of the Week Honorees

Six different Webster University athletes were honored as St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Players of the Week for March 17-23. For three of the athletes, it is their second such honor in 2014.

SLIAC/Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week

Taylor Stoulp, a senior infielder from St. Louis, Mo., is this week’s Diamond Sports Hitter of the Week. Stoulp helped the nationally ranked Gorloks to a 3-1 record on the week, batting .333 with an on-base percentage of .500. Stoulp had two multi-hit games on the week including a 2-5 game, with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs in a 23-7 win over Washington University. On the week, Stoulp was 5-15 at the plate, with two doubles, a home run, five runs, four RBIs, and three stolen bases. Stoulp was perfect in the field, converting all 26 chances at 2B and turning five double plays. This is Stoulp’s second recognition as POW in 2014.

SLIAC/Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Zach Schneider, a senior from Grayslake, Ill., is the Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week. Schneider extended his scoreless streak of thirteen innings on the season in a 7-0 win over Illinois Wesleyan University. Schneider went seven innings, allowing no runs and just three hits, while striking out three to pick up his second victory.

SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week

Erin McGinnis, a sophomore outfielder from Fenton, Mo., is this week’s SLIAC Hitter of the Week after hitting .875 in a pair of conference games. McGinnis went 7-for-8 from the plate in a doubleheader sweep over Eureka. She was 4-4 in game one with two runs scored, and followed that effort by going 3-4, with three runs and three RBIs in game two. On the week, she finished with an .889 on-base percentage and a 1.250 slugging percentage. This is McGinnis’ second Player of the Week award in 2014.

SLIAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Juan Granizo, a freshman from Ecuador, is this week’s Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. Granizo went 3-1 in competition this week, winning both of his individual matches. Competing at the #1 singles position he picked up a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 win over Lake Forest. He followed that with a 6-3, 6-2 singles win over Illinois College and an 8-3 win at #1 doubles action.

SLIAC Women’s Track and Field Player of the Week (Field)

Lauren McClain, a freshman from Imperial, Mo., picked up Women’s Field Player of the Week honors after her showing at the Rhodes Invitational. McClain claimed the top spot in the shot put with a distance of 11.76 meters, setting a new school record, placing first in a field of 39. She also competed in the discus, placing 20th out of 45 with a distance of 29.53 meters.

SLIAC Women’s Track and Field Player of the Week (Track)

Jenny Howard, a junior from Florissant, Mo., is the Women’s Track Player of the Week. Howard placed in the top three in two individual events at the Rhodes Invitational while recording the top times in the SLIAC this season in both events. She placed second out of 38 runners in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.46, just .08 behind the leader. She followed that up with a third-place finish out of 49 runners in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.39. This is Howard’s fifth time in three seasons she has been so honored as Player of the Week by the SLIAC in track.
