Where is Europe’s Google? Does it have the entrepreneurial infrastructure for a start-up to become one?

Those were some of the questions discussed at Webster University Vienna’s sixth annual Alumni Symposium this week. More than 200 Webster alumni, students, staff, faculty and guests from other organizations gathered at the Palais Eschenbach for a unique panel discussion led by Eric Frey, managing editor of Der Standard and Webster University adjunct professor.

Vienna Alumni Symposium guests enjoyed a reception and networking after the panel discussion.

“Europe is doing well in traditional engineering and design, but when it comes to innovation it is far behind the U.S.,” Frey said. “Even its advantage in mobile telecommunications has disappeared.”

Panelists discussed these themes and more, followed by an audience Q-and-A and reception.

The panel also included these entrepreneurs:

  • Vlad Gozman, co-founder of TEDxVienna, associate investment manager at i5invest
  • Hinnerk Hansen, global managing director of Impact HUB
  • Daniel Horak, co-founder of CONDA Unternehmensberatungs GmbH
  • Labinota Isufi, spokesperson, Senat der Wirtschaft Österreich
  • Ondrej Sočuvka, public policy and government affairs manager, Google, Slovakia, and co-founder of the Slovak Alliance for Internet Economy
  • Richard Ludmer, co-founder of www.StepByStepGuide.eu

The panel was moderated by Der Standard managing editor and Webster adjunct faculty member Eric Frey.
