| September 3, 2013

A message from President Beth Stroble and Provost Julian Schuster to the Webster University community:

It is with great sadness that we inform you of a tragedy in the Webster community. Webster Geneva freshman student Abdullah Aljarboa drowned while swimming in the Rhône River Saturday afternoon. Abdullah, from Saudi Arabia, started with us at Webster Geneva in January 2013 and was a resident at Les Berges du Rhône.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Abdullah’s family and their loved ones and the members of the University community who knew, worked and studied with Abdullah. Webster Geneva has been in contact with Abdullah’s family and is offering counseling to faculty, staff and students impacted by this terrible incident. In Geneva, faculty, staff and students may contact Ros Thomas ( or phone 079 385 79 55).

In a statement sent to Webster Geneva faculty, staff and students, Webster Geneva director Willem Jan Hofmans and Webster Geneva academic director Ron Daniel wrote: “Though he was only with us for a short time, Abdullah was a well-liked student and a passionate member of the Webster Geneva football team. We have expressed our deep condolences and offer of assistance to Abdullah’s family. Our hearts go out to them.”
