July 12-14 Systems Maintenance Details, Cisco VoIP Phone Interruptions

| July 11, 2013

An IT Systems Maintenance Window is scheduled Friday, July 12, 10 p.m. CDT through Sunday, July 14, 3 p.m. CDT. Expect intermittent access or extended unavailability of all systems as Information Technology upgrades and enhances Webster’s information systems, including:

  • Cisco VoIP Phones – Campuses equipped with Cisco IP phone systems (Webster Groves, Westport, Winghaven, St. Louis Old Post Office and Ft. Gordon, Ga.) will undergo software upgrades of Cisco IP phones, voicemail, Cisco Communicator instant-messaging, Attendant Console, and call center tools, resulting in enhanced end-user experience and Webster’s positioning to implement future enhancements. If you are a member of one of the affected campuses, please leave your computer powered on but with the desktop locked to ensure your computer receives the necessary upgrades.

Expect intermittent interruptions to phone-related services throughout the weekend of July 12-14. During interruptions, phone calls placed to and from affected campuses will not complete, and callers will be unable to reach voicemail. An extended interruption of several hours is expected during the weekend’s latter half when the final upgrade takes place. The time of the outage cannot be predetermined because it is dependent upon earlier upgrades. However, every effort will be made to schedule the upgrade so as to minimize service interruption during daytime hours.

Alternate contact methods are in place. In the event of an emergency during a telephone outage, contact Public Safety directly using the Power Failure Emergency Line, 314-220-8487. For technology questions, contact the IT Service Desk via email to support@webster.edu. Finally, during the extended interruption, incoming calls to Webster’s toll-free number will be rerouted to a backup analog telephone line that will notify callers of the temporary loss of phone service and how to proceed.

  • Firewall Software – Internetwork operating system software will be upgraded to ensure firewalls provide optimum protection for Webster systems.
  • Wireless Network Connections – Software that provides wireless network connectivity to Webster’s campuses will be upgraded. All campus locations should expect intermittent interruptions to connectivity between 10 p.m. CDT Friday, July 12, and 1 a.m. Saturday, July 14.
  • CX (CARS) – The Training database will be updated with data from the Production database, causing Production to be unavailable Saturday night between 8 and 9 p.m. CDT.
