Snapshots: Webster Space Coast Campus Commencement

The “Space Coast” campus locations at Merritt Island, Patrick Air Force Base and Melbourne, Fla., celebrate a combined commencement ceremony each year.

The Webster University Merritt Island, Patrick Air Force Base, and Melbourne campus locations held their graduation ceremony on Friday, June 7, at the King Center in Melbourne, Fla.

The festive event was well attended by Webster graduates, faculty and staff, as well as family members and friends who came to cheer on their loved ones and friends.

The keynote speaker was Webster alumna Valdez B. Demings ’96. She was the first female Chief of the Orlando Police Department and recently ran for Congress.

Val graduated with her B.S. in Criminology from Florida State University, then earned her master’s degree in Public Administration from Webster University at the Orlando campus location. She also graduated from the FBI National Academy and the FBI National Executive Institute.

Kelly Breedlove was honored as the outstanding graduate. Breedlove is the director of Emergency Services, Trauma Program and First Flight for Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.

A special note of thanks goes to Sara Adams, academic advisor at Webster Merritt Island, as she expertly coordinates the commencement ceremonies for these three Webster campus locations every year.

A public reception was held in honor of the graduates immediately following the commencement.

Webster Commencement Ceremonies around the World

The event was part of commencement ceremonies that happen year-round at Webster campuses around the world. Though May and June are the “busy season” for Webster commencement ceremonies each year, the date and traditions vary by campus location. Worldwide, there are more than 7,2o0 graduating in this year’s graduating class celebrated at individual campus ceremonies.

Worldwide, the Class of 2013 is diverse in background, in demographics, and in interests. They hail from 106 countries and 49 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Sixty-four are active military stationed overseas.
