Kansas City Welcomes Public School Teacher Leaders as Part of DOE Grant

| June 11, 2013

Kansas City public school teacher leaders took part in math and science training sessions at Webster’s Kansas City location.

For the third summer, Webster’s Kansas City campus location provided enhanced math and science classroom instruction for 60 pre-K-12 teacher leaders from Kansas City Public Schools as part of a $1.35 million grant awarded to the district from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The grant includes the development of videos featuring the teachers using effective teaching strategies for math and science in conjunction with KCPT Channel 19. In addition to helping fund summer teacher workshops, the grant also supports after-school science and math fairs for students.

As states begin to move away from No Child Left Behind, instructor Julie Kubiak is teaching Common Core Standards in Math while Barbara Arnold is instructing the New Generation Science objectives. The teacher leaders will attend the two-week training sessions and return in the fall to their classrooms where they will share their new learning with fellow teachers.
