Bonds and Howard are SLIAC Players of the Week

Two Webster University athletes were selected as St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for April 15-21. Mitchell Bonds (Sr, Kankakee CC, IL) and Jenny Howard (SO, Duchesne HS, MO) were chosen for their performances this past week.

Bonds

Bonds, from Decatur, Ill., was named the Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week. He was an offensive force as the Gorloks swept Fontbonne University in three games last week. Bonds went 3 for 3 with a double, home run, and two RBIs in an 11-4 win in the series opener.  Bonds then added a double and two runs scored in a 9-0 shutout over the Griffins.

He finished the series by hitting 2 for 3, with a triple and a run scored, as Webster won 12-4. Bonds had a .750 batting average for the week and a whopping 1.625 slugging percentage.

Howard: Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Howard, from Florissant, Mo., was named the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

She won the 100-meter dash at the Rose-Hulman Twilight, setting a new stadium record and the Webster school record, while besting the competitive field of 15 runners with her time of 12.42 seconds. She then won the 200-meter dash, setting a new school record time of 25.76 seconds.

For Howard, who also plays volleyball for the Gorloks, it was her sixth selection overall as a Player of the Week.
