Alarcon is First SLIAC Player of the Week for 2013

 Alarcon is named SLIAC Tennis Player of the Week.

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its first tennis Athlete of the Week, selecting Webster’s Diego Alarcon (SR, American School, Ecuador), as Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for Feb. 18-24.  This is the third time in his career at Webster that Alarcon has earned the honor.

Alarcon posted a 2-1 record in singles play and was 3-0 in doubles play last week. His two singles victories were both at #2 singles, as he posted a 6-1, 7-5 win against North Central College and a 6-2, 6-0 win against Dominican University (Ill.).  His lone loss was at #1 singles, in which he dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to Alex Champierre of NCAA Division II opponent Maryville University (MO).

Alarcon swept two of his doubles matches, winning 8-0 at #2 doubles against Maryville with partner Ricky Eaves (SR, McCluer North HS, MO) and 8-0 at #3 doubles vs. North Central College (IL) and 8-3 at #3 doubles against Dominican University (IL).  Alarcon was teamed with Josh Sellmeyer (SR, Mehlville HS, MO) for the latter two wins.

Webster went 3-0 last week. The Gorloks defeated Maryville, 7-2, North Central, 8-1, and Dominican, 9-0.  Webster is 6-1 overall on the season.
