Teaching Festival: ‘Kemper Award Winners Panel’ Feb. 20

| February 13, 2013

A diverse array of panel sessions, workshops and roundtable discussions will be offered throughout the week at Webster University’s Teaching Festival, Feb. 18-22.

A highlight of this year’s Teaching Festival is the Kemper Award for Excellence in Teaching Winners Panel on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 3 – 4 p.m., in the Library Conference Room. The panel discussion on the topic, “How to do Oral Presentations that Engage Your Students and Teach Them Something,” provides an opportunity for the University community to learn from the experience of a diverse group of award-winning teachers.

Panelists will discuss their teaching philosophies, the impact of the Kemper Award for Excellence in Teaching, and other experiences related to their craft of teaching. Panel members will provide brief statements about themselves and their teaching background as well as contribute to a moderated discussion on important topics in teaching and learning today.

This year’s panel will be moderated by Gwyneth Williams, professor of Political Science, in her 26th year with Webster University.

Other panel members include:

  • Mike Salevouris, recently retired professor from the History, Politics & International Relations Department
  • Allan MacNeill, professor of Political Economy, who has a joint appointment in the departments of History, Politics and International Relations, and Business
  • Larry Baden, professor of journalism and media for 17 years, the last eight at Webster University

In addition to the Kemper Award for Excellence in Teaching Winners Panel, a diverse array of panel sessions, workshops (registration required) and roundtable discussions will be offered throughout Teaching Festival week.
