Institutional Review Board (IRB) Meeting Dates, Submission Deadlines

| January 31, 2013

Applications for approval of research projects are reviewed by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) on a first-come, first-served basis during each school term. To make the process more efficient and provide timely feedback for faculty, students and staff, the following deadlines have been set for the 2012-2013 academic year. See the following deadlines for the 2012-2013 academic year:

Spring 1 deadline: February 15, 2013
Spring 2 and Spring Semester deadline: April 19, 2013

The committee will provide a response within one week for exempted research (Level I) and within two weeks for expedited research (Level II).

Although a few proposals are accepted as originally submitted, the applicant should expect that the committee’s response will probably point out areas where modifications are needed, and that the committee will expect the proposal to be modified and resubmitted. Occasionally, even the resubmitted proposal will be returned for further modification that may lengthen the process.

New research submissions that require the full board review (Level III) must submit a completed proposal at least 3 weeks before the next meeting date in order to be included on the agenda.

The Spring 2013 meeting dates for the full board are: Feb. 1; Feb. 15; March 1, and April 5.

Please note that no new applications will be reviewed that are submitted within 3 weeks of the end of the term. Applications that do not meet the deadline may not be reviewed until the next term.

Refer to the IRB website www.webster.edu/irb/ for additional information about completing applications. Please submit proposals to Lisa Muex Sisson irb@webster.edu. For questions contact Barbara Wehling, IRB Chair, at wehlinba@webster.edu or Lisa Muex-Sisson, IRB Expeditor, at irb@webster.edu.
