The inaugural 2012 Class of Webster University’s Global Leadership Academy was celebrated Jan. 16, in a ceremony and reception for 16 Academy fellows who have spent the last year building the distributed leadership that is critical to Webster’s success.

The Academy was designed to provide people with the training, tools and attributes to lead, regardless of their position or unit within the University.

Conceived in 2010 and designed in 2011 by a collaborative curriculum team, the GLA was created to provide the leadership training, tools and attributes required for Webster University community members to lead with distinction regardless of position within the University.

President Beth Stroble and Provost and Chief Operating Officer Julian Schuster presented graduation certificates to each graduate. Laura Rein, University Secretary, is the director of the Global Leadership Academy, and Erik Palmore, head of the Faculty Development Center, is assistant director of the Academy.

Also attending the ceremony were the 2013 GLA class and the Curriculum Committee, who were responsible for crafting the program’s curriculum.

Congratulations to the 2012 Global Leadership Academy Cohort graduates, who began this journey a year ago as the Academy’s pilot cohort.

The experience was enriching and eye-opening, according to the graduates in their own words. Now Webster can look forward to 24 more getting this experience as the Academy enters its second year.

As President Stroble reflected in her remarks, “Each year, as more and more leaders within the university complete this program, our capacity for achieving our mission is enriched. By the year 2020, Webster will have achieved its many goals, and it will be in no small part because of the hundreds of individuals that will have completed this Academy.”
