Chess team members celebrated a great tournament and a great year in New York City.

The year 2012 ended with more stellar news from Webster University chess team.

The Webster A and B chess team entries at the 2012 Pan-Am Intercollegiate Chess Championship (the World Series of collegiate chess) tied for first place, meaning Webster University has qualified for the College Chess Final Four, which will take place on April 6-7, 2013, in Herndon, Va.

Individually, Grandmaster Manuel Leon Hoyos, member of the Webster A team, also won an individual national title by having the best performance by a reserve player.

With such a strong University chess team, Webster sent A and B teams to the tournament, and both finished in the tie at the top. As only one team per school can qualify for the Final Four, six players among the A and B teams will be selected to represent Webster University in April.
