Enjoy the break, and take this moment to refresh and return with a collective resolve and recommitment to the core values that bind us as members of the Webster University community

An end-of-year message to the Webster University community from President Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble and Provost Julian Z. Schuster:

As 2012 draws to a close, it is natural for us to reflect on the past year’s experiences and accomplishments and to anticipate time to refresh with family and friends. Given the tragic events in Connecticut, we want to take this opportunity to pause and express our heartfelt sympathies to the families of the shooting victims. As a global community dedicated to making a difference in the world, we mourn the lives cut short and the devastating loss to the Newtown community.

Thank you for your dedication and support for the Webster University community and to our collective mission of preparing students for individual excellence and global citizenship. It is a noble and worthy mission. As we prepare to take a break over the holidays, let us refresh and return with a collective resolve and recommitment to our core values – the threads that bind us as members of the Webster University community.

Core Value: Students

Thank you for your dedication to our students’ success. Together, we prepare our graduates to solve the problems of our generation and the next by remaining dedicated to a personalized approach to learning with small classes and the ability to interact one-on-one with our faculty. Our faculty and staff at each campus location have strong local and international connections and provide unparalleled personal service to our students.

Core Value: Learning

Thank you for guiding our students as they learn to interact effectively with the world around them. Our distinguished faculty offers the right balance of global scholarship and professional experience to bring first-class, real-world knowledge to our students. Our academic programs join theory with practice, provide a global perspective, encourage creativity and scholarship, and foster a commitment to lifelong learning.

Core Value: Diversity

Thank you for embracing — and strengthening — an environment with a rich variety of viewpoints and multicultural experiences. Webster thrives by attracting, employing and serving individuals of diverse cultures, ages, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds that reflect the diverse communities we serve. Your enthusiasm for this core value enables us to be a truly global university that prepares our graduates to succeed anywhere in the world.

Core Value: Global Citizenship

And lastly, thank you for your collective commitment to service and to developing a sustainable future for our communities. Webster University has an amazing power of benevolence evidenced by the thousands of hours that we dedicate to community service and the philanthropy that you show to Webster University and to other worthy causes. Together, we unite to serve the underserved and make a positive difference.

These are our core values and this is our collective destiny – to improve the world one graduate at a time. The holidays are a special time to reflect and to enjoy. Please know that as we reflect, we are grateful to be a part of this great community and we appreciate your hard work and dedication.

Happy holidays and enjoy the break. And for those of you who are still working with Webster over the break, thank you!
