Impacts of Health Care Reform on Webster Employees

U.S. health care reform, as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, will impact Webster employees both individually and collectively in 2013:

  • Employees will have increased benefits under the Expanded Women’s Preventive Services effective January 1, 2013.  There will be a number of contraceptives covered at no cost. See “Expanded Women’s Preventative Services – January 2013″ posted under the Connections HR Channel in the Medical Insurance section.
  • Employee contributions to the Health Flexible Spending Account will be limited to $2,500 per year, reduced from the allowed current maximum $5,000.
  • As a part of Open Enrollment this year, employees will be receiving a standardized Summary of Benefits and Coverage document detailing information about the health plans’ benefits and coverage, specific to the plans Webster University offers. We have always provided documents detailing the coverage, but these will now be provided in a format that is consistent for all employers. Additionally, we will provide a new standardized health plan comparison tool as required.
  • Your 2012 W-2 form will include required information on the cost of group health plan coverage.
  • Higher-earners (greater than $200,000) will experience an additional 0.9% Medicare payroll tax.
  • Webster University will be required to pay one dollar annually for every individual on the medical plan for a “Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute Fee” to help fund research on the comparative effectiveness of medical treatments conducted by the new Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). The payment is due by July 2013.
