Sister Mary Rhodes

Webster University extends condolences to colleagues and friends of Sister Mary Rhodes Buckler, SL, who passed away Aug. 12. Buckler served as Academic Dean of the then-Webster College in 1963-69.

She also organized and directed summer journalism workshops at the College for high school students from Loretto high schools in seven Midwestern states.

Buckler was known for her energy, her breadth of learning and experience, her humor and her wide spirit. After leaving teaching, she retired to St. Catherine’s Court in Louisville, Ky. (1987) – Senior Citizen Housing, where she continued her life-long activism for equal rights, eco-feminism and all issues related to preservation of the Earth Community.

In 2012, Buckler retired and resided at the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary where she served in a ministry of prayer and presence, or as she liked to say, “Being, Becoming.”
