Fairchild AFB 2012 Commencement

Webster University’s Fairchild Air Force Base campus commencement ceremony was held June 15 at the Lincoln Center in downtown Spokane. Also participating were Southern Illinois University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. There was a combined total of 38 graduates, 18 from Webster, and approximately 250 guests in attendance.

Television personality Mark Peterson, co-anchor of Good Morning Northwest, served as master of ceremonies. The keynote speaker was Anthony Anderman, manager of Advanced Training for the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission and adjunct associate professor for the Fairchild campus. Anderman spoke about the courage to move forward in life and accomplish the things you deem to be important.

Graduates from Far and Wide

Several graduates traveled a long way to attend the ceremony, including online student Jimajima Aarami from the Seattle area, Kathryn Cheney from southern California and Matthew deMayo from Boise, Idagi.

Online military student Randy Gilbert was deployed to Iraq and could not participate in the ceremony, but his wife drove from the Tacoma area to stand in for him, holding his picture and diploma for photos.

Fairchild senior director Monique Black says it’s a fantastic feeling to have students from all over the world participate and realize they are an important part of  Webster University’s family.
