The Webster Staff Alliance’s year end celebration May 31 was an occasion to salute staff members who completed their undergraduate and master’s degrees this year.
In addition, the newly elected WSA board members were introduced, and those moving on were acknowledged and thanked for their hard work and contributions to the organization. These new board members will serve two-year terms beginning June 1, 2012:
• Chair – Tamara Minley, coordinator, Academic Affairs
• Compensation Chair – Sanela Bejdic, coordinator, Academic Resource Center
• Secretary – John Watts, instruction & liaison services librarian, Library
Director of the Global Leadership Academy (GLA), University secretary Laura Rein, and assistant director of the GLA and head of Faculty Development Center, Erik Palmore, presented information about the opportunities for staff members to participate through the Global Leadership Academy.
Academic Affairs staff member Laura Wainz spoke about the positive effects her participation in the Academy have had on her confidence and leadership ability.
“I found it to be a very enlightening experience,” said Wainz. “The strength finder assessment tool was especially helpful. It gives you insight into what you already do, what you are already good at, and how to ‘lead from where you are.’”
Rein, Palmore and Wainz encouraged staff members who are interested to contact them directly for more information about the GLA. Any level staff person can apply, said Rein. “President Beth Stroble believes leadership skills exist at all levels in this institution.” Sixteen are chosen each year. The application deadline for this year is Oct. 1, 2012.
