Walk-off victory: Gorloks notch their first win at the NCAA D-III World Series

The Webster University baseball team notched its first NCAA III World Series win in a thriller, beating Kean University (N.J.), 8-7, in “walk-off” fashion on May 26 at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis.

Taylor Stoulp‘s two-out, two-strike single in the bottom of the ninth inning drive in two runs to give the Gorloks a walk-off win.

Webster loaded the bases in the ninth on an infield single by senior catcher Matt Moore (Air Academy, Colo.), a single up the middle by sophomore Michael Aaron (Edwards County HS, Ill.), and a walk to junior outfielder Cody Stevenson (Centralia HS, Ill). After fouling off a two-strike pitch, Stoulp laced a hit inside the first base bag into the right-field corner to score freshman pinch-runner Devon Johnson (Timberland HS, Mo.) and Aaron to win the game.

Stoulp, a sophomore shortstop from St. Mary’s High School (Mo.) continued a scorching post-season attack with a four for six game, with three RBIs and a run scored. He is six for 10 in the Series, with four RBIs, and 16-28 with 12 RBIs in the NCAA post-season. In the process, Stoulp extended his hitting streak to 20 games, and has a hit in 35 of his last 36 games.
