Webster University junior Cody Hafeli (Marion High School, Ill.) has been named the Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the week of April 23-29.

Hafeli, a right-handed pitcher for the Gorloks men’s baseball team, won both games of a double header at Fontbonne University last week. In game one, Hafeli took the mound in relief in the fifth inning with runners on first and third, and induced the first batter he faced to hit into an inning-ending double play. He set down the final six Griffins in a row to pick up the 5-2 win.

Hafeli started in game two and retired the first 13 batters before giving up a double in the fifth inning.  Hafeli gave way to freshman Isaac Behme (Harrisburg High School, Ill.) in the sixth with the lead, giving up just the one hit, one unearned run, no walks, and striking out two.

With the decision in the 2-1 victory, Hafeli gained his team high seventh win. On the day, he allowed one hit and no earned runs in 7 2/3 innings of work, lowering his season ERA to 2.12. He is 7-1 on the season.
