Chinese Summer Camp for Kids K-6, June 18 – 22

Celebrate the Chinese holidays at the 2012 Chinese Summer Camp for kids K-6 hosted by the Confucius Institute at Webster University.

The camp will introduce Chinese culture and language to participants by teaching about five major Chinese holidays: Chinese New Year, Lantern Festival, Qingming Festival, Duanwu Festival and the Moon Festival.

Date/Time: June 18 – 22, 9 a.m. – noon
Location: Webster University, Webster Groves campus
Registration fee: $50 per family, due the first day of camp

Applicants must be 6-11 years old by June 1. The application deadline is May 19, 2012. Children with parents who have no Chinese background are preferred.

Parents are welcome to sit in the class with their children to learn some Chinese in a fun way. The maximum number of campers is 40 – first come, first served.

Class Format:

9 – 9:50 a.m.  Culture class. Introduce the holiday of the day.

10 – 10:50 a.m.  Language class. Five topics will be taught according to the students’ levels.

11 – 11:50 a.m.  Activities. Five different activities will be arranged: paper folding, calligraphy, Chinese yoyo, lantern making and dumpling making.
