[Updated with Results]: Network Outage Scheduled March 29

Updated March 29 with results of maintenance:

The network maintenance scheduled for 5 a.m. CDT this morning, March 29, was successfully completed with the desired performance improvements. Regretfully, the time needed to complete the change surpassed the anticipated one hour. Information Technology apologizes for the extended delay and any inconvenience it may have caused.

The change was necessary to address Internet performance (downloads) documented across all campuses. Unfortunately, upon beginning work, technicians discovered the firewall required additional maintenance in order for the change to be entirely completed. The result was that the change, including additional maintenance work, extended beyond the allocated one-hour window, requiring a total of two hours and causing operational delays. European campuses were most impacted.

To prevent operational impacts like these in the future, Information Technology has requested the Administrative Council establish quarterly maintenance windows. These windows will be blocks of time scheduled outside normal business hours during which all planned system maintenance will occur.

Connection speeds between the extended campuses and the Webster Groves campus are already improved as a result of today’s network improvements. IT expects the extended campuses will continue to benefit from these changes and will monitor the network for its continued success.

Thursday, March 29, the University network will be unavailable beginning at 5 a.m. CDT for approximately one hour while Information Technology performs installations and maintenance necessary to enhance Webster’s technological infrastructure. These enhancements are expected to improve connectivity speeds for extended campuses.
