Vote for me on March 19!

After sweeping the field in 2011, the “original” Webster University Gorlok has been selected as the top seed in this year’s Mascot Madness Sweet Sixteen, sponsored by Tucson, Ariz., radio station 1280, “The Source,” from March 19 – April 4.

Fans of the Gorlok can help vote it through a rugged field  of 16 towards a mascot championship.

Whereas the Gorlok had to fend off a variety of unusual college mascots in 2011, it will have to step up it’s game as the selection committee seems to have scoured the U.S. for the strangest set of professional minor league mascots in the land.

The Gorlok’s first round opponent on March 19 definitely is play-in game material, Louie The Lumberking, from the Clinton, Iowa, Lumberkings baseball team.

But the competition gets tougher and odder as potential later round opponents include: Monty The Biscuit of the Montgomery, Ala., Biscuits baseball team, Blowie of the Columbia, S.C., Blowfish baseball team and The Sushi Rolls of the Vancouver Canadians baseball team.

The Webster University Gorlok first appeared in spring 1985 and through various stages evolved into the ‘letter-sweater’ caricature that is most familiar to those in the Webster community. In 2006, the Webster Athletics Department commissioned and unveiled a new Gorlok for exclusive use by the department and its various teams.

Fans of the Gorlok can vote for it in first round action on March 19. A victory would catapult the Gorlok to a second round match on March 27.
