Endicott, Bunch, Whittingham

Highlighted by sophomore Stefan Whittingham‘s (Ft. Lauderdale HS, Fla.) selection as the Men’s Player of the Year and freshman Cassie Endicott‘s (Civic Memorial HS, Ill.) selection as the Women’s Newcomer of the Year, the Webster University basketball squads won numerous honors as the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its annual awards for 2011-12.

Whittingham, who led the SLIAC with 17.5 points per conference game, was second in rebounds at 8.9 per game and was among the leaders in field goal and free throw percentage as well. He is the first Gorlok men’s player since 2000-2001 to win the honor, and only the second player in team history. He also landed a berth on the SLIAC All-Conference First Team.

Junior Roman Robinson (Merritt CC, Calif.) joined Whittingham on the SLIAC All-Conference First Team, earning the honor in his first season as a Gorlok. Cody Bradfisch (Jerseyville HS, Ill.) was SLIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Head Coach Chris Bunch picked up his fourth SLIAC Coach of the Year Award. Bunch previously was selected in 2005, 2007, and 2008.  Earning a spot on the SLIAC Men’s All-Defensive Team was sophomore Hollis Edwards (McGavock HS, Tenn.). Sophomore Jarrod Huskey (Hillsboro HS, Mo.) was Webster’s representative on the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team for 2011-12.

For the women’s squad, Endicott earned the Newcomer of the Year award with a standout freshman campaign, averaging 8.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.  In addition, she shot .532 from the field, 2nd in the SLIAC, and .806 from the free throw line, which was fourth in the SLIAC.

Junior Maggie Zehner (Oakville HS, Mo.) was named to the SLIAC All-Conference Second Team, her third time receiving All-Conference recognition. Zehner led the Gorloks in scoring at 9.8 per game, and also averaged 3.9 rebounds and over two assists and steals per game.

Zehner and Endicott were also both named to the SLIAC Women’s All-Defensive Team as well. Senior Megan Willett (Parkway West HS, Mo.) was selected as a member of the All-Sportsmanship Team for a second straight year.
