Nationwide Emergency Alert System Test Nov. 9

The Emergency Alert System, formerly the Emergency Broadcast System, will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, at 1 p.m. Central Time on Wednesday, Nov. 9. The test will last approximately 30 seconds and will be transmitted via television and radio stations across the United States.

The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a national warning system that is designed to transmit emergency alerts and warnings to the American public at the national, state and local levels. The test will be conducted in cooperation with the FCC, FEMA and the National Weather Service
