| October 28, 2011

Denise Thimes takes center stage accompanied by Webster jazz ensemble musicians Carol Beth True, Tom Byrne, Willem von Hombracht, Kevin Gianino and Paul DeMarinis.

St. Louis’ jazz stylist Denise Thimes lived up to her “legend” status with standards such as “Embraceable You” and “Tenderly” at the TKT Jazz Scholarship Benefit concert Oct. 24. Also taking part in the event were CBS News Correspondent Russ Mitchell, who acted as host, and guest performers Ralph Butler, Debby Lennon and late addition, Lynne Fiddmont, in town for a performance at The Sheldon. Ian Lubar, the 2011-12 TKT scholarship recipient, performed a Wes Montgomery piece on his guitar.

The event was founded to commemorate the legacies of Terry Jackson, Kirk Cappello and Tony Saputo, three former Webster University music students who, as members of Reba McEntire’s road band, were killed in a tragic 1991 airplane crash. The scholarship was established by their family and friends to provide assistance to music students showing exceptional professional promise.
