Student Dean’s Award Recipients Named for Fall I

| October 26, 2011

Associate vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students Ted Hoef has selected five students to receive the Dean’s Award for Service for Fall I. The award recipients are: Emily Bahr, Laura Eschbacher, Mariana Mejia Ahrens, and a joint award for Megan Favignano and Caitlin Zera.

According to Hoef, in order to be considered for the Dean’s Award one must be nominated by a member of the Webster University community for performing a valuable service. Hoef said the term “service” encompasses a broad range of contributions made by students, both on- and off-campus.

She was nominated for her on-campus leadership including comptroller for the Student Government Association, two-time presenter for the Delegates’ Agenda, Student Coordinator for new student orientation, member of the Global Citizenship Program Task Force, and member of the Task Force on Undergraduate Advising and Career Services.

She was nominated for her on-campus leadership as secretary for Student Ambassadors, Resident Assistant, vice president of the Catholic Student Union, public relations coordinator for the Galaxy Radio Station, senior Gorlok Guide, and for delivering the opening speech for the Women in Leadership speaker series.

Mariana Mejia Ahrens

Mariana Mejia Ahrens, a senior audio production major from Mexico City, Mexico, was nominated by Chris Rice, community director in Housing and Residential Life. She was nominated for her campus leadership involvement as president of the Residential Housing Association.

Megan Favignano, Caitlin Zera

Megan Favignano, a sophomore journalism major from St. Louis, and Caitlin Zera, a sophomore film production major from St. Louis, were nominated by John Ginsburg, director of the University Center and Student Activities. They were nominated for their leadership roles in the WILD Gardeners club promoting education about healthier and organic foods, the Webster Students community Connection, and their involvement with the Webster Groves Farmer’s Market.

Up to four students are recognized each term with the Dean’s Service Award. The awards will be presented at a luncheon to be held in late October.
