| October 17, 2011

Information Technology staff World Food Day volunteers.

Thousands of volunteers¬† from all over the St. Louis region, including 11 from Webster University’s Information Technology department, worked Oct. 14 and 15 at the Danforth Plant Science Center packaging food, learning about world hunger and ways to alleviate it, and raising awareness in observance of World Food Day.

Held Oct. 16 each year, World Food Day commemorates the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945.

The worldwide event is designed to educate and increase awareness and understanding, with the ultimate goal of alleviating hunger worldwide.

The Information Technology volunteers took on leadership roles overseeing food packaging and educational exhibits. Consisting of rice and/or soy protein, the food packaged by the volunteers is to be sent to victims of long term drought in sub-Saharan Africa.
