Webster Fall Sports: Here Come the Gorloks

| August 30, 2011
Webster University Athletics

All eight Webster University fall sports teams begin play this week as the 2011-12 athletic year gets into full swing. Men’s and women’s cross country, men’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s tennis will all see action.

The cross country teams are scheduled to be the first in action with a dual meet vs. Westminster College on Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. at Blackburn Park.

The key word for the cross-country match is “scheduled.”

With the heat index expected to be hovering near 110 degrees on the 1st, the running of the meet is in doubt. Also on Sept. 1, the men’s soccer team will take on Washington University at the Soccer Park at 7 p.m., and the women’s volleyball team faces Benedictine University-Springfield in Springfield, IL, at 7 p.m. also.

A similarity most of the fall sports share is new faces…lots of new faces.  Leading the way is men’s soccer, which will see 12 new players on the field, and women’s soccer, trotting out 10 new recruits, eight of them freshmen. Women’s tennis, with six new players out of 10, and women’s cross country with four out of seven runners, have the highest percentage of their rosters being new to the University.
