Ken Fox Celebrates Chinese New Year in China

| January 31, 2011

Ken Fox, adjunct professor, Charleston Metropolitan Campus, S.C., who is currently teaching in China, recently shared the following:

I’m teaching an MBA course in marketing at Webster’s campus in Chengdu, China, to Chinese students in English. The entire nation of China is getting ready to celebrate the Chinese New Year — the Year of the Rabbit — on Feb. 3. Almost everyone plans to travel to their home towns to celebrate the New Year with their families. The New Year is also called the Spring Festival and it lasts two-three weeks. The night before the New Year’s day is supposed to be electric, with constant fireworks.

Chengdu has a population of 11 million people and it is booming. The city is currently building a new airport and subway. Geely Motors, which bought Volvo recently, announced they will build their first Volvo assembly plant in China in Chengdu. I have students in my class from Intel, Mars (maker of M&Ms), Molex, joint venture companies with GE, United Technologies, Agilent and a number of computer network and IT companies. The weather has been cold but the people have been warm. I also visited the world’s largest panda breeding reserve which was was fun and great to see the pandas being saved and bred.

[Fox is the managing partner of The Soundings Group, a business strategy marketing consulting firm, and chairman-elect of the South Carolina World Trade Center. He has extensive international experience in helping launch new product introductions in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Western Europe. Fox has extensive new business consulting experience in the medical field, working with such companies as GE Medical, Berchtold, Hollister, Smith & Nephew and Eli Lilly & Company. He taught part-time in the MBA program at DePaul University in Chicago and has had articles published in a number of business journals.]
