All three Fall team sports  qualified for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 2010 postseason tournaments.

Men’s and women’s soccer enter their respective tournaments on the road as #4 seeds, and the women’s volleyball team’s first-round opponent is to be determined. All three hope for a great turnout of Gorlok fans making the trip to cheer them on to victory.

Niel DeVasto, sports information director, sets the scene for each squad:

The women’s soccer team will travel to Principia College (IL) on November 3, for a 4:30 p.m. contest.  The Gorloks have relied heavily on the firepower supplied by seniors Christy Capkovic (Mehville HS) and Megan Niederschulte (Pattonville HS), with 32 goals and 21 assists between them on the season.  But juniors Morgan Milfeld (DeSoto HS, MO) and Amanda Zeier (McCluer HS), along with freshman Katie Aubuchon (Affton HS), have had breakout scoring seasons and are threats as well.  The finals will be on November 6 at a site to be determined.

The men’s soccer team will travel to Greenville College (IL) for a 3:00 p.m. game on November 4. Clint Carder (SO, DeSoto HS, MO) has led the men’s squad and the SLIAC with 15 goals on the season.  After Carder, the Gorloks spread the scoring around as 10 other players have netted two or more goals on the year.  A solid defense has allowed only 26 goals in 18 games, and Alex Cupp (JR, Lutheran South HS) has a 1.31 GAA in the nets for Webster.  The finals will be on November 6 at a site to be determined.

The Women’s volleyball team is sure of two things:  it will enter the SLIAC tournament as the #2 seed, and  Greenville College will host the one-day tournament on November 6. The Gorloks started out 5-0 in the SLIAC before dropping two matches, their first conference losses in three years.  A 6-2 run, with one match remaining, has left them at 11-4 and in second place. Webster will probably have to beat the Panthers on their home court to win a fifth consecutive SLIAC tournament.
