| October 12, 2010

The Departments of International Languages and Cultures and ISTL present Dr. Sandra Rebok, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (Madrid), and her presentation: “Alexander von Humboldt: Explorer of South America/Consultant to Thomas Jefferson.”

Time: noon, Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010
Location: Emerson Library Conference Room

Starting with their personal encounter that took place in early 1804, an intensive exchange of ideas developed between Humboldt and Jefferson over the following 20 years through letters and publications they shared.

In addition to Humboldt’s travels and his contributions to geography, botany and the sciences, Dr. Rebock will focus on the view that each held of the other based on parallels but also differences in their action and thought.
