Webster University’s 11th president, Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble,  was installed Sept. 25 at a ceremony in Powell Symphony Hall in St. Louis.

“This is a celebration of  Webster and all its diversity and the joy that Webster feels for its future, its accomplishments and its history,” Stroble said before the ceremony. “We are at a wonderful time…and today is mostly about saying what a wonderful place Webster is — and we have a gorgeous day for it.”

Accompanied by bagpipes, campus directors, faculty members, guests and participants in full academic regalia preceded Stroble onto the Powell Hall stage as the ceremony began. The group assembled in front of a banner proclaiming: “Leadership and Vision for Global Academic Excellence,” flanked on each side by a large Webster seal.

Presenting greetings to the new president were: Gerry Welch, mayor of Webster Groves; Dennis Golden, president of Fontbonne University; and Todd Kohlbecher, MA ’93, president of the Alumni Association.

The installation was wonderfully refreshing and restoring. As a transition it gave me new confidence that we were facing the future with the right leadership.
But as a book lover, I am curious as to what books the WSA chair Michelle Loyet gave Dr. Stroble? Should we all be reading them?
