March 2010 Employee Spotlight

| June 30, 2010

Gary Linton, coordinator, Desktop Technical Services/User Services, and Shannon Sargent, evening coordinator, Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., share the Employee Spotlight honors for March 2010.

Gary Linton‘s nominator describes him as a “computer guru.” While developing an online course, the nominator had computer difficulties for several weeks before Linton zeroed in on the problem and replaced the hard drive. “I was frantic…and am forever grateful,” the nominator says.

With Desktop Technical Services for three years, Linton says he enjoys his job. “My coworkers and the users whose computers I support are incredibly cool,” he says.

Linton says the little moments of his on-the-job experience are the ones that stand out. People are so appreciative when he gets a computer up and running after a virus or hardware problem. “Those are nice moments,” he says.

“Winning the spotlight award means a great deal to me,” Linton says. “It means I must be doing something right.”

Linton chose the $100 savings bond for his prize.

Shannon Sargent’s nominator appreciates the exemplary way she handled the changes in administration at Edwards Air Force during the Fall 2009 term.

“Shannon has been very helpful assisting with class schedules, room changes, classroom maintenance issues and answering student questions regarding the new changes,” her nominator says.

“Her positive outlook and consistently good work ethic demonstrate her love for Webster and its students and staff,” the nominator adds. “Shannon is a valuable asset to those of us at Edwards Air Force Base and we are proud to have her as part of our family.”

Sargent says she enjoys coming to work and loves being there for the students, emphasizing that it is rewarding to encourage them and let them know Webster cares about them. Several students have shared with Sargent that her encouragement has motivated them to complete their program.

“I celebrate each and every student’s achievement at graduation,” says Sargent. “Every graduation holds great memories for them and me.”

Sargent, who has been in her position with Edwards for eight years, says she enjoys being a team member with a great office staff and working with a program that augments and positively serves the students and the community.

Sargent chose a day off with pay as her prize.
