At approximately 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 3, a water pipe burst in Loretto Hall room 63. Water quickly flooded into the room making it extremely difficult for Facilities employees to open a door that opens in, rather than out.

Removing the door knob to gain access resulted in the employees being pushed back by the water surging out of the small opening. David Stone, director, Facilities Planning and Management, estimates that close to three feet had accumulated by the time they were able to open the door.

Water then flooded the entire lower level of Loretto Hall, including the offices of Multicultural and International Student Affairs, Academic Resources, Human Resources and the Mail and Copy Center. The water was shut down by early Friday morning.

Sat. morning, June 5, a fleet of trucks from Woodard Cleaning and Restoration Services arrived to begin the clean up. Hazard Moving and Storage went to work moving desks and equipment to temporary headquarters for the duration of the clean up. Stone says it will be approximately two to three weeks before the flooded offices are ready to be occupied.
