‘Next Steps for Webster University’

At her spring convocation, Jan.13, President Stroble focused on the University’s future and the steps needed moving forward, after a look back at how far the institution has come since its founding as Loretto College in 1915.

Often asked how she plans to “lead Webster to the next level,” Stroble said she believes the University currently stands at a defining moment in its history and that the future depends in large part on the wisdom of the decisions we make now.

“What truly helps us in this defining moment for Webster is the work that this University community has already undertaken to define a mission, a vision of values as was captured in the Vision 2020 Strategic Plan,” Stroble said. “I want to go on record today that, as your president, I embrace the plan and consider that I am here to help Webster achieve that vision.”

An Invitation to the Table

Quoting a mentor from earlier in her academic career, Stroble said a leader “invites others to the table.” Extending that metaphor, Stroble encouraged the community to “come to the table” to share ideas, thoughts and suggestions for Webster’s future.

“We’ll use websites, focus groups, town halls, committees and standing organizations that work within the Webster community — all with the intention that your voice is going to be heard,” she said.

“Lot’s of tables are going to be set. There will be lots of places for all of us. All we need to do now is accept the invitation.”
