In his June 18 presentation at Webster University China (Chengdu) as part of Walker Speakers Series, Emerson Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David N. Farr will discuss the strategy and long-term focus behind the growth of this leading global technology and engineering company.
Since taking the reins of Emerson in late 2000, Mr. Farr, his management team and employees have grown the company’s sales from US$14 billion to over US$24 billion last year. In that time, sales to international markets have risen from just under 40 percent of total sales to nearly 60 percent in 2011. Sales into Asia under his tenure have grown from about US$400 million to US$5.5 billion last year – roughly half of which comes from China, where Emerson has been serving customers since 1992.
In addition to Emerson’s strong global position, the company has also been committed to technology innovation and continued investment in research and development — especially for the Asia market. This commitment has remained intact into and through the most challenging economic cycles, including the recent global economic crisis.
The foundation for Emerson’s operational excellence lies in a longstanding and renowned management planning process, guided by Mr. Farr, who has been named among “The Best CEOs in America” by Institutional Investor magazine for the past five years.
