Help for Haiti one tweet at a time

We’ve watched the tweets and posts grow throughout the week spotlighting the horror that has hit Haiti.  First we shared the breaking news;  how big was the quake, how many people are dead or missing, what is the damage in dollars.  Now we share posts of hope and ways we can help those whose world has been literally shaken to the core.

“If you’re in the US text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10. 100% of your donations go to the Red Cross. http://bit.ly/6Uubhn ”  Twitter creator @Jack Dorsey tweeted to his 1.5. million followers and the world responded.

Social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter have become lifelines for those in Haiti and immediate sources so the rest of us can help.

I point this out because among the tweets I read today was one posted by @rgriguts highlighting @Jack’s visit to Webster University in St. Louis last fall.

“Dorsey’s speech at Webster U really inspires me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suIuyRXUnAM #twitter #inspiration”, @rgriguts tweeted, pointing out a post on YouTube of the address.

Yes, @Jack was inspirational that day, prompting any entrepreneurs in the audience to give their ideas a chance.  We’re glad he did.  And today he’s inspiring millions more with the utility Twitter that’s helping all of us help others.  Thanks Jack.
